How it began

In October of 2024 we started “looking” for a quiet retreat away from our hectic day to day grind in Metro Detroit. We wanted somewhere that felt remote, but was still close enough for short day tips.

So our exploration began! After dozens of visits to locations within a 60 mile radius, we decided to take a pause for the winter (or so we thought). On January 31st we saw a new listing on Zillow… it looked promising. So on February 1st, 2025 we took a drive to see 2 “small” properties after a nasty snow/ice storm. The first one captured our hearts! It wasn’t perfect, but it had so many of the features we had been looking for. Do we wait until spring to see the raw land (it was covered in snow), or do we jump on the opportunity???

We talked about it on our way to the next property. And the more we talked, the more we identified with the hills, the trees, and of course the little creek that quietly wanders along the edge of the property line. After a 2 hr discussion in the ditch along S. Sashabaw (a story for another time), we decided not to risk losing to another buyer. We put in an offer, pending a perc and soil test to make sure it possible to put in a septic system.

And that is how it began!
